Protection for the vehicles you handle

If you repair, detail, park, or store customer vehicles, something can happen while they’re in your care. Garage Keepers Insurance can help protect customer vehicles against certain types of physical damage while they are in your care, custody, or control.

Garage Keepers is not the same as Garage Liability, and having one doesn’t automatically mean you have the other. At Omega, we help you review how your coverage is structured based on the way your business actually operates.

What Should You Review in Your Garage Keepers Coverage?

Having Garage Keepers is only part of the conversation. How the coverage is structured matters too. The number and value of customer vehicles in your care, where they are kept, who is allowed to drive them, and whether your policy is written on a Legal Liability or Direct Primary basis can all affect how your protection responds when something happens.

At Omega, we help you review these details so your coverage better reflects how your business actually operates.

Garagekeepers Insurance FAQs

While both can be important for automotive businesses, they address different risks. Garage Liability generally focuses on liability claims arising from your garage operations. Garage Keepers is designed to address certain types of physical damage to customer vehicles while they are in your care, custody, or control.

Coverage depends on how the policy is structured, the covered causes of loss, limits, deductibles, and exclusions. Damage involving faulty work, defective parts, or certain uses of a customer vehicle may be treated differently. That’s why it’s important to review the actual policy instead of assuming every type of damage is covered.

With Legal Liability, coverage generally responds when your business is legally responsible for damage to the customer’s vehicle. Direct Primary may respond to certain covered losses without requiring your business’s negligence to be established first. The options available and exactly how they work can vary by policy and carrier.

You shouldn’t assume that it does. A vehicle being stored or kept in your custody and a vehicle being transported can create different exposures. Towing businesses may need additional protection, such as On-Hook Towing coverage, depending on their operations and how the policy is structured.

There is no single price or limit that works for every business. Insurers may consider your type of operation, location, loss history, and the number and value of customer vehicles in your care. When selecting a limit, one important factor is the maximum total value of customer vehicles you may have in your custody at one time.
